Tapestry, as presented by Nina Hons, consists of a totally handwoven work created by weaving colored strands of sisal and wool into unique artistic colorful patterns of various themes. In some artworks, Nina may attach another material; such as linen, silk, metal pieces or a physical object to enhance the theme of her project. Nina produces her works by blending artistic creativity and interpretation with her ability to hand-weave strands of color without the need of a mechanical loom.
As art critic Debra Kravitz wrote in "Art Matters" about her 2004 exhibit at PII gallery in Philadelphia; "Nina's work can be shocking or even overwhelming. Her heavy tapestries are hand-woven in three dimensional textures to depict surreal dream landscapes and extensions extruding from the surfaces are woven back in with additional built-out structures and metal pieces."

Nina's tapestries are initially created within a simple wooden frame. Woven strands of colored sisal and wool are woven within pre-strung vertical strands of sisal which span the length of the wooden frame. The tapestry is completed by a tying together of all the strands and then cutting from the frame to allow for an independent mounting. An example of these stages can be seen by viewing the pictures associated with the tapestry Watchung Arts Center. Watchung Arts Center also shows Nina's ability to create a work of art based on a concrete reality as opposed to the abstract. When displayed as intended, Nina's tapestries appear much like a painting on the wall. Photographs of Nina's tapestries are often mistaken for photographs of a painting, but a closer inspection reveals woven strands of colored sisal, wool and other materials.

Note: The Watchung Arts Center tapestry was completed through reference to a high quality photograph. Nina Hons has also made tapestries of customer's homes from photographs. Nina sometimes enhances such artworks by adding some elements of artistic interpretation.
